C/C++ Firmware bare metal developer with experience in real time operating systems, communications protocols and full product lifecycle experience in medical test devices.

Opening for a full product lifecycle bare metal embedded firmware engineer familiar with techniques and tooling of C/C++ microcontroller development in medical test equipment. The developer supports multiple bare metal C/C++ object oriented firmware applications ranging from implementing business logic, temperature control, motion control, and lighting/UI interfacing to inter-board or inter system communications using serial and TCP protocols.

This embedded developer designs, programs, and tests firmware to achieve goals established for the project, and provides documentation of design and interfaces to other groups. This person works with the Electrical Engineering department to understand and advise the required hardware interfaces, the Application software teams to communicate and understand the required system interfaces, and be able to self manage interfacing to Analysts and Product Owners to gather and implement logical requirements. The developer also works with the test group to assist in defining reliable regression and system tests, as well as establishing an understanding of how the FW works.

This developer belongs within an embedded firmware development team working in a modified Agile Kanban environment with a focus on on-time delivery, integration of hardware and firmware without the application, and high reliability and uptime. Integration with manufacturing and support of current instruments are as fundamental as developing new features to this team.

Every candidate must:

  • Be able to communicate designs and interfaces effectively and efficiently
  • Present themselves clearly and professionally
  • Lead and manage a small embedded team
  • Have experience with Bare metal Embedded development, debugging, programming and hardware interfacing
  • Have minimum 5 year experience in FreeRTOS
  • Have experience with one or more of the following Serial interfaces: USART/UART, RS232, RS422, RS485, CAN, I2C, SPI
  • Have experience with TCP/IP wire level protocols
  • Have experience with STM32 microcontrollers
  • Have experience with Object oriented design/object oriented programming
  • Have minimum of 8 years of embedded microcontroller programming
  • Have minimum 10 years of recent C/C++ (C97 or better) experience
  • Have Microsoft tool experience: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Be able to switch between support and development as needed


The ideal candidate would have experience in:
  • FreeRTOS + TCP
  • Visual Studio and GCC/OpenOCD toolchains
  • Automated unit testing and GTest
  • Flash memory management/programming
  • Bootloaders and bootloading to an embedded application
  • C# for user interface and testing purposes
  • Logic analyzers and oscilloscopes
  • Schematic interpretation and some hardware design
  • Stepper motor control and robotics
  • Contributing to the training less experienced developers
  • Participating in defining process and procedure improvements to a team
  • Agile and Safe Agile, Kanban and scrum
  • Understand source control systems and specifically GIT and GITFLOW
  • Working in a regulated environment, e.g. Medical devices or Medical test Equipment
