General Position Description:

Responsible for providing personalized holistic student support and coaching. The Student Success Coach provides learning opportunities as well as creates conditions that leads to the achievement of students' academic and career goals. The Student Success Coach will also monitor student persistence and progression towards graduation utilizing appropriate advising technology.

Normal business hours are Monday - Thursday: 8 AM to 6 PM; Friday: 8 am to 5 pm.
Part-time between 25-29 hours per week.

Description of Job Function:

1. Provides students with personalized holistic student support and coaching. Educates students on Valencia resources, , and academic, non-academic, and community resources to ensure academic progression and career success.

2. Serves as the point of contact to assigned cohorts and supports students as they navigate institutional college policies and procedures and other resources such as the Tutoring and Writing Center, Career Center, Learning Support, Internship, and Workforce Services.

3. Uses technology to leverage a cohort-based coaching model and support students seeking guidance and support; maintains, tracks, and reports on student outreach, engagement, and established outcomes.

4. Assists students in creating an education plan by reviewing college placement test results, degree audits, and transfer credits. Provides strategies to help students with identifying educational and career goals, selecting a degree pathway, and developing an education plan for their academic success.

5. Provides coaching through a variety of service delivery modes (e.g., group coaching, one-on-one coaching, online coaching, etc.) in response to student needs, enrollment trends, and changing campus environments.

6. Manages and analyzes caseload data to monitor students' academic progress. Disseminates information accurately and concisely as required, keeping detailed records and providing appropriate referrals based on students' needs.

7. Communicates and partners with the coaching leadership team to identify and implement systematic and intentional proactive strategies to enhance the student experience and contribute toward the college's student persistence and graduation goals.

8. Develops and facilitates educational opportunities (e.g., events, presentations, information sessions, etc.) designed to enhance student learning outcomes and increase student engagement. Participates in the new student onboarding experience.

9. Develops and enhances coaching knowledge and skills through participation in both internal and external professional development and training opportunities.

10. Attends meetings (departmental, advisory, and curriculum meetings) to remain current on programs, career, and occupational trends, as well as updates with college policy and procedures.

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, or any equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to communicate interpersonally, orally, and in writing.

Ability to assess student's developmental needs and translate theory into practice.

Ability to follow protocols to facilitate advising programs appropriately.

Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to provide authentic person-centered advising to students.

Knowledge of college's educational policies and graduation requirements.

Ability to research the educational policies and graduation requirements of any college or university.

Ability to collaborate with other departments to resolve student issues to full resolution.

Ability to continuously learn, interpret, and explain new knowledge regarding changes and advancements in federal, state, college policies, regulations, and technology.

General Working Conditions:

This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
