A Toxicologist at CTEH provides support in the areas of toxicology, risk assessment, industrial hygiene, and emergency response and may participate as a member of an emergency response team responding to chemical release emergencies. A Toxicologist will assemble, prepare, and analyze data concerning toxicological, environmental, and human health risk assessments and provide support to Project, Senior, and Principal Toxicologists as well as CTEH project managers. Utilizing his/her knowledge of various scientific disciplines, he/she may conduct and/or supervise sampling, monitoring, and information collection. Position location is at CTEH's main branch office in North Little Rock, AR. This is a career track opportunity starting at an entry level toxicologist with advancement to senior levels, commensurate with experience and education.

Job Type: Full Time

Pay Range: $85,000-$158,400 (commensurate with experience)

SCOPE OF WORK

  • Availability for sudden and extended travel as a member of an emergency response team to chemical and/or natural disasters at clients' requests to oversee/conduct air, water, and/or soil sampling, meteorological monitoring, and other scientific data collection;
  • Provide data management and evaluation support to project managers in the areas of toxicology, risk assessment, industrial hygiene and emergency response;
  • Participate in business development activities as assigned, including assisting in the development of articles and presentations;
  • Evaluate project needs in the areas of toxicology, risk assessment, industrial hygiene, and emergency response and develop strategies to address issues related to each project;
  • Prepare written reports summarizing scientific data and findings;
  • Perform risk calculations and prepare risk assessment and toxicology summary reports;
  • Compile, critically review and summarize scientific/technical data and literature;
  • Act as a point of contact for clients of the company including taking calls related to CTEH's worker exposure response program;
  • Obtain appropriate training and experience in order to develop the skills necessary to serve as a project manager/director; and,
  • Perform such other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Doctorate degree in Toxicology, Public Health, Biology, Medical Sciences, or a related field with 0 to 2 years of related post-degree work experience; and,
  • Skilled with data management and word processing software including advanced computer skills in a Windows-based platform
Professional Skills/Licenses/Certifications

  • HAZWOPER certification (Required - may be obtained post-hire)
  • DISA clearance (Required - may be obtained post-hire)
  • TWIC clearance (Required - may be obtained post-hire)
  • Current driver's license (Required)
  • Ability to obtain a passport (Required)
  • Completion of all job specific OSHA training
  • Ability to comply with all job specific OSHA requirements, including the wearing of a respirator.
  • Able to work independently and with minimal supervision;
  • Able to respond in a timely manner to all communications from his/her supervisor;
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a matrix reporting structure;
  • Able to understand and follow written and verbal directions; and,
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills in the English language.

  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen, sampling device, and/or a paper copy
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Frequent, unscheduled travel for extended periods of time
  • Ability to drive noncommercial vehicles alone for long distances
  • Rarely may work shifts of up to 24 hours in duration
  • Occasionally dress out in physically demanding personal protective equipment (PPE) for site entry at HAZWOPER sites as required under 29CFR 1910.120
  • Occasionally wear half-face and full-face air purifying respirator (APR) as well as supplied air respirators in the form of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and hose supplied respirator with medical clearance as required under 29CFR 1910.134
  • Rarely wear partially or totally encapsulating personal protective equipment

  • Works in an office environment when not deployed on an emergency response;
  • Often works outdoors and may be exposed to hot and cold environments and extreme weather conditions, including sunlit, rainy, and windy conditions;
  • May occasionally work shifts up to 24 hours in duration;
  • Encounter environments presenting physical hazards of uneven ground, standing water, ditches, dusty conditions, rapidly moving transportation and remediation equipment, and physical stress associated with the wear of personal protective equipment;
  • May work at altitudes greater than 5000 feet above sea level;
  • May work on land, sea, or air;
  • May work in a setting with potential physical and chemical hazards; and
  • Frequent, extended travel.
