The Vice President (VP) of ABS Training will play a critical role in leading a new go-to-market initiative focused on innovative maritime training solutions. The VP will drive market adoption of a conventional classroom training catalog and immersive gaming and streaming products focused on innovative learning experiences and virtual simulations. The VP must have a strong command of working with a customer audience, including mariners, ship operators, port and flag state operators, maritime engineers, FPSO operators, maritime educational institutions, and equipment manufacturers. The position will drive this new commercial venture's market penetration and revenue growth, serving as a P&L leader who collaborates closely with internal teams and external partners to develop and refine a portfolio of virtual training products that meet maritime professionals' current and future needs.

What You Will Do:

This strategic role primarily focuses on driving a new sales team to achieve ambitious market penetration and revenue targets in the maritime training sector. It requires a dynamic leader with deep commercial maritime industry experience who can serve as a "player-coach," actively involved in both leading a new sales team and tactically executing business development efforts. The Vice President will not only direct sales and product positioning for ABS's commercial training portfolio but also ensure the seamless integration of cutting-edge technologies into its global maritime training.

  • Establish the structure of the new business and lead a team focused on going to market with both legacy and new training products for the commercial maritime market.
  • Define and drive sales strategies to achieve and surpass targets while directly engaging in market penetration efforts to capture new business opportunities.
  • Lead all aspects of business operations, including finance, sales, marketing, product development, and customer service.
  • Collaborate with the ABS Learning Organization (LO) team to oversee all aspects of training delivery, ensuring the highest standards of quality are maintained.
  • While not directly managing content creation or delivery, the Vice President is accountable for the end-to-end operational success of client training programs.
  • Spearhead the launch and market introduction of next-generation immersive gaming and streaming products designed for virtual maritime training.
  • Identify and forge strategic partnerships with technology providers, content creators, and maritime industry stakeholders to enhance product offerings and expand market reach.
  • Negotiate and manage partnerships for licensing and resale of the commercial training portfolio.
  • Work with industry experts and ABS training developers to incorporate current industry insights, trends, and customer feedback to the development team.
  • Drive enablement of other business development teams across ABS, developing content and delivering enablement sessions for sales and BD personnel across the rest of ABS, our partners, and customers.
  • Conduct detailed market analysis to identify and target specific segments within the maritime industry that would benefit most from immersive training solutions. Tailor marketing and sales strategies to these segments to maximize market penetration and user adoption.
What You Will Need:

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field. Master's Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of leadership and experience focused on driving sales growth in a maritime/commercial shipping domain.
  • Meaningful experience with a commercial profit-driven training company or business unit is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience overseeing business development for products related to technology platform user adoption growth and revenue targets is a plus.
  • Experience in product management, capable of overseeing product development and ensuring products meet market needs and customer expectations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic sales plans that align with company goals and drive significant revenue growth.
  • Deep knowledge of the maritime/shipping industry and exceptional understanding of customer relationships, sales cycles, and needs of maritime customers.
  • Strong operational management skills with the ability to oversee multiple aspects of business operations, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of client-facing training programs and products.
  • Ability to learn the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Experience in product management, capable of overseeing product development and ensuring products meet market needs and customer expectations.
  • Ability to collaborate with marketing teams to develop and execute marketing strategies that effectively target desired audiences and generate leads.
  • Strong skills in building and maintaining relationships with key clients and stakeholders, enhancing business opportunities and customer satisfaction.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of effectively articulating complex ideas and influencing others across all levels of the organization and customer/partner ecosystem.
It Would Be Nice If You Had:
  • Certifications in Sales Leadership, or Project Management (i.e. PMP).
Reporting Relationships:
  • This role reports to a Senior Vice President and has multiple direct reports.
Working Conditions:
  • Work will generally be performed in a climate-controlled environment. However, the VP will travel to meet with clients and internal stakeholders, and there may be international travel with overnight stays.
