Position Summary::

The VITA Site Tax Preparer(s) will perform all the major components of income tax preparation: Document Review and Intake Interview with the taxpayer, return preparation, quality review, exit interview with the taxpayer, and ensuring the final tax package is complete.

Tax Preparers will be familiar with all resources. During the return preparation process and/or the tax return results, the Tax Preparer will identify additional resources that might benefit the taxpayer. The VITA Site Tax Preparer reports to the Coordinator/Site Director at the Rufty Holmes Senior Center Tax Site.

Required Education/Experience::

• Associate's Degree in related field and two years of experience in tax preparation OR a certificate in related field with three years of experience in tax preparation
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills and comfort with a wide range of people

ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information and exercise good judgment; ease of mobility within the work environment and other areas of campus and College locations; travel between campus locations may be required; and effective use of all forms of communication including use of computers.Preferred Education/Experience/Skills::

• A bachelor's degree in related field
• Four years of previous experience preparing multiple tax returns for a variety of taxpayers
• Two (2) years of supervisory experience

• Completes IRS training and certification as outlined in the Training Section.

• Certify at the Advanced level and as an IRS Site Coordinator.

• Conducts Intake Interviews.

• Prepares high quality tax returns that correctly apply tax law and ensure that all allowable credits are claimed.

• Ensures that the IRS Quality Review Process is followed.

• Makes referrals for other community resources.

Duty and Responsibility::

• Collaboratively work with the VITA Tax Coordinator at the main Rufty Holmes site to provide tax services to Rowan-Cabarrus Community College students and the community.

• Supports the mission, vision, and values of the College and attends College events and meetings as requested.

• Performs other duties appropriate to the position and as assigned by the VITA Site Tax Coordinator.
